Support
Including your iPhone model, iOS version and the DayByDay version (Settings › About) helps me find the problem faster.
Switching phones
With Save to iCloud on, DayByDay's photos and records are stored in your own iCloud. On a new phone, sign in to the same Apple Account and install DayByDay, and your records come back.
With Save to iCloud On
- Install and Your Records Return
- Sign in to the same Apple Account on the new phone, then install and open DayByDay. Your records and photos download from iCloud. With lots of photos this takes a while, and it's faster on Wi-Fi.
- Shown on the Welcome Screen
- The first time you open DayByDay, it checks iCloud in the background for earlier records. If it finds any, the welcome screen says something like “Mochi's records are in iCloud,” and the app opens once they're back. It's fine to start filling things in first. When the earlier records download, they're merged, and the earlier baby profile is kept.
With Save to iCloud Off
- Restore from iCloud Backup
- With iCloud Backup on, DayByDay is backed up with the rest of your iPhone, and photos take up backup space. When setting up the new phone, choose to restore from iCloud Backup. Open DayByDay and your records are there.
- Restore from Computer Backup
- Back up the old phone in Finder on a Mac or in the Apple Devices app on Windows, then restore the new phone from that backup. DayByDay's data is restored with it.
- Transfer Directly from iPhone
- When setting up the new phone, choose to transfer data from your old iPhone. DayByDay's data moves over with it.
Check Before You Switch
In DayByDay, go to Settings › Data and check the line under Save to iCloud. If it starts with “Saved in iCloud,” your records are being saved. When your iCloud storage is full, new records can't upload, and that line says so too.
Don't delete DayByDay from the old phone until you see your records on the new one.
Signing Out or Changing Apple Accounts
If you sign out of iCloud on this iPhone, or turn off iCloud for DayByDay in Settings, the system removes the records already saved to iCloud from this iPhone. Sign in to the same Apple Account again and they download again. Records not yet uploaded to iCloud may be lost, so export a copy before signing out.
If this iPhone switches to a different Apple Account, DayByDay saves only on this iPhone for now and doesn't merge with the new account's iCloud. Settings will say so.
Exported Folder
Settings › Data › Export All Data creates a folder meant for a computer or cloud drive: daily photos, a few spreadsheets (CSV), and a data manifest.
This folder can also be imported back into DayByDay: Settings › Data › Import Exported Folder. Records for the same baby are merged without duplicates. If the folder is for a different baby, you can replace everything with what's in the folder.
DayByDay Plus
Purchases go with your Apple Account. Sign in to the same Apple Account on the new phone to use it. If it doesn't show as purchased, tap Restore Purchases on the DayByDay Plus page.
Data and privacy
Exporting and deleting all data, and the permissions DayByDay uses, are covered in the Privacy Policy.
